Sunrise Over Townsend

The Foothills Parkway near Townsend, Tennessee, is one of the best places to see sunrises over the Smoky Mountains. Looking to the East, with fog often forming in the valleys, sunrises from here are often quite spectacular.

Sunrise From Clingman's Dome

The highest place in the Smoky Mountains, Clingman's Dome provides panoramic views in every direction. A great place to watch a sunrise or sunset. But dress warmly and can get very cold, especially if the wind is blowing.

Hidden Beauty

I chanced upon this scene in the Tremont Area of the Smoky Mountains. Mostly hidden from passers by, I had to let myself down over a ledge to get the view I wanted, not knowing how I was going to get back to the trail.

Tremont Falls

Only a few paces off the road there is a section of the Tremont River that has several waterfalls. This series was captured in the morning light in late October.

Tennessee Beauty

Hidden from view, this scene can only be captured by climbing down a steep path and negotiating rocks and brush to get below the falls. The beauty of this section of the river is truly hidden from any other viewpoint.

Looking Glass Falls

A beautiful waterfall in North Carolina on a rainy day in late October, 2014. It is a special treat to find color close to a lovely waterfall. In the Pisgah National Forest.

In A Cabin In The Woods...

On our way to Linville Falls we got a bit lost and found this cabin in the woods. It is such a prefect little cabin in a perfect setting, I could not resist capturing it with my camera. Of all the structures I photographed on this trip, this is my favorite. Reminds me of the Children's rhyme, "In a cabin in the woods, a little old man by the window stood. Saw a bunny hopping by...."
